How a still medium can create moving emotions?

Speaking of photographs, I’ve always had an indescribable amount of impression on how such a still object can stir the most emotions within my heart. No words, no sound, no animations, they still succeed to touch my soul every time.

I’ve always admired the mesmerizing beauty of images, even though not every one of them is taken by a professional photographer. I just fall in love with the idea of how magical it is to have something that can stop the unstoppable flow of time, capture the beauty that cannot be seen by bare eyes. Something so simple, yet so powerful, to hold back every moment and bring out everything’s deepest meaning.

I’ve seriously considered starting my future career in the creative field by taking photographs. As an introvert myself, I feel like photography had helped me a lot in expressing my feelings and ideas to others, which I struggle to do with words every time. I always have so many creative thoughts in me and I need a medium to let my inner self communicate with the outside world. For me, images speak a thousand things that words fail to say, and I suppose it will be an effective way of mine to expose what I think and how I feel towards the other things in life, which is really necessary for this creative industry.

I’m equipping myself with photography skills to become a photographer someday. As I joined a photography group in high school and a reporter club in university, I’ve learned a lot about the rules, the ratio, the angle, the lighting, and many things more that make up an aesthetically and artistically pleasing photograph. I will be focusing on taking portrait images especially, since I have always admired everyone’s unique beauty. I do feel like photographs also have the ability to bring out your inner soul and personality rather than just the outside appearance – that’s why I’m amazed every time I see a portrait photograph.

I think I can go far with this passion since I can feel my heart palpitating with excitement every time I’m holding a camera. That’s what a ‘sparks’ in the new Pixar movie Soul means I think – to have something that keeps you alive and makes you feel like life is worth living? I don’t know yet, but I know for sure that I will be following this desire with all of my heart.
